Artists: Capella de la Torre, direction: Katharina Bäuml (shawn)
Johann Sebastian Bach must have been familiar with the sound of the Renaissance instruments of shawm, bombard, cornett and sackbut even as a small child in his parents’ house, as his father worked as a town piper in Eisenach. – With the unmistakeable sound of their wind instruments, Capella de la Torre are leading interpreters of this repertoire today. Directed by Katharina Bäuml, they will be looking at the phenomenon of the Bach chorale from the perspective of the 16th and 17th centuries, focusing on four chorales in versions by Josquin des Préz, Johann Walter and Heinrich Schütz, as well as on Bach’s contrapuntal compositional style in the annual cycle of chorale cantatas. A fascinating musical stroll through 200 years of music history!
